The Killers to Release Cover Album

In addition to tinkering around with songwriting ideas for its next Christmas single, the percussionist admits there have been internal discussions about the long-rumored Killers covers album. Songs already recorded include Bright Eyes cover "Four Winds (U.K. B-side for "Spaceman"), as well as a Cyndi Lauper tune and a version of Murray Head's "One Night in Bangkok." Regarding the latter track, Vannucci says the band "messed around" and recorded it with Louis XIV. He stressed at the very least a street date for the covers project remains far off, if not open-ended. [Billboard]

A cover album from the Killers would be amazing. Even though they haven't made anything as good as their first album in my opinion, I still look forward to anything new they release. Maybe if Brandon Flowers makes friends with Pete Wentz we'll get a Killers cover of "Dance, Dance". Haha.

Gwen Stefani says she can't wait to reform with her No Doubt band mates, and hopes to have an album out by summer 2008.

The pop singer has spent recent months promoting her second solo set "The Sweet Escape", and heads out on tour over the summer before giving birth to her second child. And after a busy year, Stefani plans to keep the momentum up with a return to pop-rockers No Doubt.

"I got an idea in my head about what we could do and now that's all I can think about - doing a No Doubt record," She tells radio station Galaxy. [Sound Generator]

Finally, No Doubt will return with some new material. As good as Gwen Stefani's music has been, No Doubt is missed by many. Their album, Tragic Kingdom, was my first album I bought. They're memories and I look forward to 2008.

HAWTHORNE/POISON JOIN WARPED TOUR

Hawthorne Heights have announced via a MySpace bulletin that they will appear on at least a portion of this year's Warped Tour.

Similarly, Ferret Records have confirmed that metalcore band Poison The Well will also play some dates. A complete list of confirmed acts, as well as what dates they are playing, is below.

The traveling festival will once again run from June to August 2007 all over the U.S. and Canada. The tour, in its 12th year, was founded by Kevin Lyman, who recently co-founded the Taste Of Chaos tour, entering its third year. [AP]

CHRIS CORNELL LEAVES AUDIOSLAVE

Audioslave frontman Chris Cornell has left the group, citing "irresolvable personality conflicts".

Cornell said in a statement, "Due to irresolvable personality conflicts as well as musical differences, I am permanently leaving the band Audioslave. I wish the other three members nothing but the best in all of their future endeavors."

There were hints of the band going their separate ways, when Rage Against The Machine (featuring Brad, Tom and Tim from Audioslave) announced they would reform and play at the Coachella festival in California this April.

Chris Cornell also recorded a solo single as the theme to 'Casino Royale', 2006's James Bond effort, 'You Know My Name'.

The band formed in 2001 after Rage Against The Machine split with their front man Zach De La Rocha in 2000. Cornell's previous band Soundgarden had split after their 1997 Australian tour. He released one solo album in the meantime.

They had three albums in their short career.

Cornell will release his second solo album 'Carry On' on April 28, produced by Steve Lilywhite. There is no word of a Rage Against The Machine recording yet. [Undercover]

I enjoyed the first album from Audioslave, the second, not so much. It's great that Rage Against the Machine is trying to try things out again with a reunion show, time will only tell how it turns out. Best of luck to Chris on his solo career.

SIRIUS AND XM MERGE

XM Satellite Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio have entered into an agreement to merge.

The deal values the combined company at $13 billion.

The combination of the two companies is expected to offer a great choice of channels to customers, accelerated technology and new benefits to OEM partners.

The management line-up for the new company will be led by Sirius head honcho Mel Karmazin. Gary Parsons, Chairman of XM will chair the joint company. XM's CEO Hugh Panero is expected to exit the company following the merger.

Sirius Radio's core asset is superjock Howard Stern. XM Radio has grabbed headlines by signing Bob Dylan to host one of its programs.

The deal is subject to approval by the FCC but expected to be finalized before the end of 2007. [Undercover]

The FCC is having trouble approving this deal. They're afraid with no other Satellite alternative, XM/Sirius may jack up their prices any time they want. It is against certain laws for this to happen. I hope it doesn't, XN is way better anyway.

WHITE STRIPES SIGN WITH WARNERS

The White Stripes are set to sign with a major label for the first time, according to Billboard.com.

The band are said to be "close to inking a long-term, multi-million dollar deal with Warner Bros."

The duo were dropped by indie label V2 last month. They, along with Moby and The Crystal Method, fell victim to a massive operational restructure at the company. [Undercover]

Best of luck to the White Stripes with their new record deal. They're money makers for any company, odd that they were dropped from their other label. I mean, sure, get rid of Moby, but the White Stripes? Weird.

BLOC PARTY SPRING TOUR

Bloc Party have unveiled their second UK tour of 2007 for April - playing some of the biggest shows of their career.

The band released their second album this month "A Weekend In The City" - currently sitting at No. 2 in the UK album charts - and have confirmed plans for their second single release on April 9th to coincide with a new tour.

The London based outfit will hit the road from April 14th for six shows - including two dates in London at the Brixton Academy on April 19-20. The Monday prior they release "I Still Remember". [Sound Generator]

UNDEROATH SPRING/SUMMER TOUR

Underoath is taking to the road for a seven-week tour beginning next Thursday (Feb. 22) at the Bryce Jordan Center in University Park, Pa. As previously reported, the trek comes on the heels of drummer/vocalist Aaron Gillespie's tour with his side project, the Almost.

The group will be sharing the stage with Taking Back Sunday through April 7 at the House Of Blues in Atlantic City, N.J. Underoath is supporting its most recent Tooth & Nail release, "Define the Great Line," which was recently certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America for U.S. shipments of 500,000 copies.

The band will also play some dates on this year's Warped Tour, despite dropping off the 2006 lineup due to interpersonal conflicts. "Things are better than ever now. We've done three tours since then, so things are good," Gillespie told Billboard.com in January.

The sextet is also scheduled to perform June 30 at the 2007 Cornerstone Festival, the annual Christian music event held in Bushnell, Ill. [Billboard]

FALL OUT BOY TALKS ABOUT NEW ALBUM

Fall Out Boy says its third album, "Infinity on High," will surprise its fans -- but hopefully in a good way. Guitarist Patrick Stump tells Billboard.com that the Chicago band's second major label album, the follow-up to 2005's double-platinum "From Under the Cork Tree," cuts a broader swath of styles and flavor than its predecessors.

"From song to song there's a completely different feel, but they all make sense in context," Stump explains. "They've got a few common points, but overall there's a lot of different voices and perspectives and styles. It would be dishonest for us to hold back any of these elements."

Fall Out Boy is telegraphing those new directions with the album's first single, the funky "This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race," which was released on Nov. 21 and played live at the American Music Awards ceremony. "It's basically a hip-hop/R&B song, but written as a punk song," says Stump, who came up with the groove while he was doing some production work for Gym Class Heroes.

Stump says he was particularly surprised by some "borderline classic rock" sounds the quartet came up with for the album, which is due Feb. 6 via Island. There's also greater use of piano, he says, as well as strings and horns, though he claims that "we were really restrained about it. At the end of the day the core of the songs is just four guys -- drums, bass and two guitars -- playing. They're just rock songs."

"Infinity on High," which takes its title from a letter Vincent Van Gogh wrote to his brother, also features guest appearances by Jay-Z, who introduces one track, and guitar solos on another by Panic! At the Disco's Ryan Ross and New Found Glory's Chad Gilbert. [Billboard]

I can't seem to get into the new single. It's good that they're trying something new though. They could've just stuck with the style from their last album because it worked, but instead they're experimenting and doing their thing. I do hope they have one or two songs though that sound like their last album. Only time will tell..

THE SPILL CANVAS STARTING FRESH

South Dakota-based emo-rock act the Spill Canvas have signed to Sire Records. Sire, a division of the Warner Music Group, was originally an independent label until 1976, when they signed a distribution deal with Warner Bros. The label has been the home to many influential artists over the years such as the Ramones, the Smiths and the Cure. Recently, the label was unearthed, and currently houses groups like Against Me!, Armor For Sleep and HIM, among others. The band are currently preparing to enter the studio with Neal Avron (Yellowcard, Fall Out Boy) to record their major-label debut, which should be out in mid-2007. [AP]

This could be good news or it could be bad. I'll guess it's good especially since the Cure and Smiths came from it. The Spill Canvas were smart to get Neal, he has experience with successful bands. Best of luck to them.

2007 TAKE ACTION! TOUR

The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Emery and A Static Lullaby are confirmed to perform during this year's Take Action! Tour. The trek kicks off Feb. 1 at the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C., and runs through late February. Scary Kids Scaring Kids and Kaddisfly are also slated to perform.

A two-disc CD/DVD compilation, "Take Action Volume 6," will also be released Feb. 6, with proceeds from the project and the tour to be donated to the Youth America Hotline. The set features previously unreleased material from the Honorary Title ("Untouched & Intact"), So They Say ("Break the Silence"), Crash Romeo ("Life Camp"), Drive By ("Accidents") and the Secret Handshake ("Don't Call").

My Chemical Romance and Rise Against, along with past and present bands from the tour, also contributed. The DVD portion contains music videos from the bands.

Take Action!, now in its sixth year, was founded by Hopeless and Sub City Records to raise awareness and funds for suicide prevention initiatives. Past performers have included artists Anti-Flag, Hawthorne Heights, Jimmy Eat World and Thrice. [Billboard]

This tour sounds like it's a really good cause. Everyone should attend. I just recently heard a song from my girlfriend of The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, they're pretty good. Make sure to check out the album/dvd as well, it has a lot of bands you'll love.

THURSDAY HEADLINING STRHESS TOUR

Rock act Thursday is partnering with artist Derek Hess' clothing company Strhess and PureVolume.com for its winter tour, which will also feature Murder By Death, Fear Before The March Of Flames and Heavy Heavy Low Low. The trek begins Jan. 18 in Hartford, Conn., and wraps Feb. 3 in Lancaster, Pa.

Fans are being asked to submit art that will be a part of the tour; 20 finalists will be featured on Stresstour.com, and a fan vote will decide the winner, whose work will be displayed on the road.

Before the tour, Thursday will play its annual holiday concert Dec. 27 in Sayreville, N.J., with support from Lifetime, From Autumn To Ashes and New London Fire. [Billboard]

HAWTHORNE HEIGHTS SET TO RECORD

Hawthorne Heights have announced via their MySpace blog that they've written 11 songs for their upcoming third album -- and, most importantly, they're "super excited" about them.

"We're up to 11 songs for the new record! I can't wait to go in and record," says HH drummer Eron Bucciarelli on the blog. "I don't want to give anything away about these songs yet, because when we write, the songs change and grow over the course of the whole process and what we have now could end up being radically different from what ends up on the record. I will say that so far so good and I'm super excited!"

Bucciarelli posted another update a few weeks prior, describing the currently written songs as "further expansions of what we have done in the past. They reflect the growth we've made since our last album but there's an added cohesiveness in these new songs that I think can only be related to our recent self-reflection, uncertainty of our future and the general ups and downs one goes through in times of struggle."

There is no word on who will record LP3 for the Dayton, Ohio, natives; nor what label will be releasing it, since the quintet recently filed a lawsuit against their label, Victory Records, and specifically owner Tony Brummel. The band still plan on releasing a live CD/DVD sometime in 2007, as well. [AP]

They're a rapidly rising band with a already huge and still growing fan base. Their next album will easily go mainstream, probably up there with My Chemical Romance. The fans will be waiting for it.

RADIOHEAD DEBUTING NEW TRACKS

Two new Radiohead tracks are to air on a new internet-only TV show, spearheaded by super-producer Nigel Godrich.

"From The Basement" will feature Thom Yorke as one of the show's guests, and the frontman will debut a pair of the band's new album tracks to the viewing public - "Down Is The New Up" and "Videotape". Both tracks were performed to crowds earlier this year on Radiohead's short Euro tour.

"'From The Basement' was exciting because it came from the desire to cut out the crap that lies between the music and the viewer," said Thom Yorke. "To get plugged straight into the mains. No producer director egos messing it up."

Writing on his blog, the skin smith says Corgan, alongside producer Roy Thomas Barker, had been 'carving up the sonic landscape', but adds that fans should also expect some quiet numbers on the new set.

The band, who are not expected to be reforming with guitarist James Iha, look set to release a new album in mid to late 2007. [Sound Generator]

This come back is going to make so many people happy, especially those who grew up listening to this band. They have a few songs that I love, other than that, nothing. I hope they complete this album, it will be a huge and highly anticipated release if they do.

NEW CURE ALBUM IN WORKS

Robert Smith is struggling with a case of writer's block in the making of the 14th album from The Cure.

Speaking to Reuters, Smith explained that he has around 33 new Cure songs, with the album being pushed back for release in May 2007.

"I want them (the words) to mean something, it's not enough that they rhyme," he said. "I find myself stopping short and thinking I've done this before, and better. I've given myself a deadline to finish the words before Christmas. If I don't I should be shot."

Smith also expressed his disdain for being continually described as a 'goth', describing the tag as "pitiful".

"We're not categorizable," he explained. "I suppose we were post-punk when we came out, but in total it's impossible. How can you describe a band that put out an album like 'Pornography' and also 'Greatest Hits' where every single song was top 10 around the world? I just play Cure music, whatever that is."

The Cure is a fantastic band. It was great when Robert Smith collaborated with blink-182, very surprising as well. I hope the next album has some tracks like "Boys Don't Cry" and "Close to Me", that would make my day. Smith may not like labels, but call me a "rocker" any day.

LABELS RELEASING SONGS IN MP3

After years of selling online music digitally wrapped with copy and playback restrictions designed to hinder piracy, major music labels are beginning to make some songs available in the unrestricted MP3 file format.

The releases are part of an experiment to gauge demand for tracks that can be played on any digital music player capable of playing MP3s, one of the oldest music compression formats.

Normally, copy-protected tracks are only playable on certain devices. By selling MP3s, recording companies can ensure they can be played on Apple Computer Inc.'s market-leading iPod players without going through Apple's iTunes Music Store.

"They're still looking at it as an experiment but the labels have really come a long way in terms of wanting to see how this works for them," said Carrie Davis, a Yahoo spokeswoman. [Yahoo!]

This is such good news. I'm tired of having tracks that can only play in certain programs and not in others. It's such a royal pain in the ass. When I bought stellastarr*'s 'Harmonies For the Haunted' album, Sony BMG screwed it up big time. You could only copy the music into Windows Media format. It couldn't be added to iTunes or anything with all the restrictions. People were angry, because they had done that to a lot of releases that year. This is good news for all.

KEANE MAKING UP FOR MISSED TOUR

Keane will return to the road in the new year with a US tour. The band were forced to pull their last dates after singer Tom Chaplin went to rehab earlier this year. However with Chaplin now recovered, the band will begin 2007 with five American shows.

"It'll be great to get back out to America and Canada," he said. "We were really disappointed to miss out on the big tour in September, so it's genuinely exciting to be going out again. It's long overdue and we're really looking forward to it." [NME]

THE RAPTURE FORM RECORD LABEL

That New York band who sounds like those London bands, The Rapture, launch a vanity label and new tour.

Pitchfork reports that the jaunty post-punk disco outfit needed a storehouse to release their vinyl and remixes efforts so they set up the mightily-named Throne Of Blood label. The first release was the debut single 'Get Myself Into It' from their 2006 album 'Pieces Of The People We Love', which hit number 36 in the UK.

The outfit are focussing heavily on the UK, announcing a February 2007 tour and a part in the NME Awards show at the London Astoria. [Undercover]

The Rapture has some really catchy and dancy tracks. If you haven't heard them yet, download "House of Jealous Lovers" and "WAYUH". It should be interesting to hear some remixes to their songs.

NEW RECORD LABEL BY ANDREW MCMAHON

Andrew McMahon, frontman of Something Corporate and Jack's Mannequin, has formed his own record label. Called Airport Tapes And Records (or ATR), McMahon has established the label under new company Your Music America, which itself was founded by industry veterans Larry Lee and Richie Zito. According to YMA, "the joint venture will serve as an outlet for the talented artists that Andrew encounters on the road and at home." There is no word on the label's first signings or releases or even a website established, but when that changes, we'll bring the news to you. [AP]

Andrew McMahon is a pretty talented guy. Something Corporate has some amazing songs, while "Mixed Tape" by Jack's Mannequin sounded really epic too. I'm eager to see which bands come out of record label. Can't wait.

INCUBUS TOPS ALBUM CHARTS

California rock band Incubus earned its first No. 1 album on the U.S. pop charts Wednesday, though sales were less than half those of its previous release.

Incubus sold 165,000 copies of "Light Grenades" (Epic) during the week ended December 3, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Its last set, 2004's "A Crow Left of the Murder," debuted at No. 2 with 332,000 units. [Yahoo!]

For some reason, I just can't seem to get into Incubus. They're a talented band, but I guess it's just not my sound. "Drive" is a great jam, but stuff like "Warning" makes me dislike them. Their current single, "Anna Molly" isn't too bad though. Judging by their record sales, I think they took too long of a break and people just lost interest.

FROM AUTUMN TO NO SINGER

Vagrant Records metalcore band From Autumn To Ashes have announced via their MySpace blog that frontman Ben Perri has left the band. The blog post points to a series of events between Perri and the rest of the members, culminating with Perri never showing up to the studio where the rest of the band were recording their fourth full-length. Drummer/singer Fran Mark has now assumed the frontman role in the band and completed the band's Australian tour as such, and the group are looking for a new drummer to fill Mark's place. [AP]

Perri e-mailed AP earlier this morning with his side of the story; here is his letter, unedited:

"As I am sure you have read on the band Myspace, I have left the band. Everything you read was essentially true, just without the malice. I want to take this time to first off, thank you all for the amazing support you have shown me for the last seven years and to apologize for leaving so abruptly.

As you all know, we as human beings go through tough times. I had been going through a rough time ever since last summer. A few times I thought the band was done, when I was still all in, and somehow we kept on truckin'. I did it because I still loved what I was doing and loved playing for all of you.

Somewhere in between the end of this summer and a month ago, I lost the passion......the fire that kept me going for all these years. I did not want to continue doing this without it. I know that was part of the reason you have all stayed with FATA is that fire and that passion that I had. I loved helping you with my words and talking to you all at shows and just performing with these guys day in and day out. But, i am sure you know what it is like when the passion dies. It takes it's toll on you physically and mentally, and I did not want drag you down with me.

The way I left and the timing was all deplorable on my part. I take full responsibility for my actions and I am sorry, but if I didn't do what I felt was right for ME, I would be lost. For the first time in my life I acted selfishly....maybe to a fault, but I did it for ME.

I hope you all understand and continue to support the band through all of this. They have always risen above adversity and they will continue to do so.

You all mean the world to me and I would not trade the last seven years for all the money, sex and power in all the world.

Well, this sucks for all of you From Autumn to Ashes fans. My brother is a big Metalcore fan, I'm not. So now I can bug him about it. Hopefully they're able to find a new drummer and keep the band going, they have a lot of fans. Best of luck to the former lead singer.

BUTTER VS. CLANDESTINE CLOTHING

Ritter says some of the band members have other musical projects, but none that will impinge on All-American Rejects' schedule. He himself has extra-musical concerns he'll focus on during the time off, including some real estate holdings he has in the band's native Oklahoma and developing his clothing line, Butter, beyond the T-shirts and hoodies it currently offers.

"I want it to grow naturally," Ritter explains. "I don't want it to be completely whored-out like your Clandestine by [Fall Out Boy's] Pete Wentz. I don't want to be another guy in a band making shirts. I definitely want it to stand on its own." [Billboard]

ALL-AMERICAN REJECTS TAKING A BREAK

After 80 weeks of touring in support of 2005's platinum-plus "Move Along," Ritter thinks it's time for the band to take a break -- and for its fans to get a break from the band.

"I think the world needs to take a breath away from the All-American Rejects," Ritter explains. "I think people make mistakes by coming back too quick. Like the Killers, I think that was a good time that they took away. People get burnt out on sh*t easy. If you don't disappear and you're always in the spotlight, then you're just another Britney Spears, y'know?"

Despite the looming break, Ritter says he and his bandmates have been working on new material and that he's "pleasantly surprised with the songs I'm writing out here on the road." [Billboard]

The Rejects sure had a great run with their last album. Their singles flew off the charts and created a huge fan base. I bought their first album the week it came out in the new artists section at my local Wherehouse. It was decent, had a few good songs, but it was left at that. I'm happy to see they've grown as a band. I can't wait to see what they come back with after their break.

INTERPOL RECORDING THIRD ALBUM

NYC mope-rock kings Interpol have officially begun recording their third album, and major label debut. The band posted the following update on their website:

"We are now recording album 3. The studio is in NYC, and we're enjoying being local. The atmosphere and the environs of a recording facility affect the sound and feel of an album in the subtlest ways. And we are affected. And it is subtle. Sounds great so far. But we'll be here for a while yet."

The group began writing the album in July; they signed to major label Capitol Records in August. The disc should be out in mid-2007. [AP]

Interpol is a great band. I found more songs off their second album I liked and only a few on the first. So hopefully if the pattern continues, I'll love most of their third album. "Next Exit" is a great relaxed listen, give it a listen.

MATCHBOOK ROMANCE LOSE GUITARIST

Epitaph band (and former AP cover stars) Matchbook Romance have announced that guitarist Ryan "Judas" DePaolo has left the band for the second time since the group's formation -- this time for good. The band's statement is below:

"Sadly, the first thing we have to report is that Ryan Judas DePaolo, will be leaving Matchbook Romance. Its unfortunate, but it gives Ryan DePaolo the chance to chase down other dreams and aspirations that he has personally. Everyone at MRHQ wishes him the best."

DePaolo's final performance with the band will be Dec. 22 at the Chance in Poughkeepsie, New York, with Men Women & Children and the Sleeping opening. [AP]

Matchbook Romance is currently set to head the Epitaph tour, hopefully they are able to find a new guitarist in time. The only song I dig by this band is "Monsters," the music is epic.

THE BLACK PARADE MOVIE

Reports of a film adaptation of My Chemical Romance's "The Black Parade" may be exaggerated, but the project is not beyond the realm of possibility, according to frontman Gerard Way.

Way tells Billboard.com that the movie reports are just "rumors" and that the band is "not talking to anybody about that." Nevertheless, he adds, "it is something that we would love to see. I can't say that people should expect it in the future, but I know it's in the public vibe right now and people are talking about it. So, we'll see." [Billboard]

The new album is really good. There are a few songs I didn't care for, but for the most part, it's a success. I'm not too sure I agree with the next single, "Famous Last Words." Myself and a few others agree that "The Sharpest Lives" would do the job as their next hit single. The album is a great story which could possibly be made into a great artsy/indie movie. So, best of luck with that guys.

NEW SONGS FROM COLDPLAY

Having been off the road all year, Coldplay will unveil a batch of new songs during a Latin American tour in February and March. The trek will begin with a Feb. 14-16 stand in Santiago, Chile, and will run through a March 3 show in Mexico City.

The new material is earmarked for Coldplay's fourth studio album, which is tipped for a late 2007 release via Capitol. It will be the follow-up to 2005's "X&Y," which debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200. [Billboard]

I've never been a huge fan of Coldplay, but they do have quite a following. I want another song like the Scientist, that song hits the spot on a cold, lonely day. If you happen to be in the Latin America area, drop in for some new songs.

BRANDEN STEINECKERT LEAVES THE USED

This is some of the worst news I've ever heard relating to music. The Used is by far my favorite band in the world. I've met them, hung out with them at their record release party for In Love And Death, seen them live, bought their albums, and did my best to spread the word to everyone about them over the years. Branden was also my favorite member of the band. This note was sent out last night from the rest of the band.

Dear Friends.

It is with much sadness that we want to tell you that Branden is no longer the drummer in The Used. We felt that we needed to move forward without Branden as our drummer. We wish Branden well, and owe a great deal of gratitude towards him for his hard work over the years. We could not have gotten this far without him. We all wish much happiness and success in Branden's future endeavors - wherever they may lead.

No new drummer has been chosen yet.

We are almost done recording the album and it should be released in early 2007.

We are very proud of the songs so far and can't wait for you to hear them.

PANIC! BUILDING GOD IN NEW VIDEO

Panic! At the Disco is on a vacation and are enjoying it at home in Las Vegas. Vacation for them though includes a little work. They working on the new video for their next single.

Topping Panic's to-do list is shooting a video for "Build God, and Then We'll Talk." Though details on the clip are scarce (Panic have yet to settle on a director) Ross is promising big things — chief among them that it will be the last video the band will shoot off its million-selling debut, A Fever You Can't Sweat Out.

"We've always wanted to do this one as the last video off the record, because we want it to be the last impression we give our fans before we come back with a new album," he said. "And we're excited because it's not your typical rock-radio song. It's an experiment, because I feel like everything on the radio is kind of safe right now. The people at our label think it's a bad idea, but they've thought that every single since 'I Write Sins' has been a bad idea."

In addition to the video, Panic will continue working on material for the follow-up to Fever, which they hope to flesh out during their upcoming arena tour with Bloc Party and Jack's Mannequin. [VH1]

I'm not sure if I've heard this song or not. My girlfriend may have sent it to me, but I can't think of it. Best of luck to them as they wrap up their album with their final single. I look forward to the video.

Influential rock act Brand New have finally announced a release date for their upcoming third album. The album -- the group's follow-up to 2003's Deja Entendu and their major-label debut -- will be released Nov. 21. No album or song titles have been released yet.

The group, fronted by the enigmatic Jesse Lacey, have spent much of the past two years working on their major-label debut, first for DreamWorks, then for Interscope (after the former was dissolved into the latter); it was recorded by Dennis Herring in Oxford, Mississippi. [AP]

So 30 Seconds to Mars and Head Automatica are going to tour together. I had the opportunity to see a bit of 30 Seconds before and they weren't my thing. Then when I heard "The Kill", I actually enjoyed something by them. Jared Leto acted really conceited, but whateves. Head Automatica should be a real treat, Daryl probably puts on a really good show.

Jared Leto-led prog-rock act 30 Seconds To Mars and dance-rock group Head Automatica, fronted by Glassjaw singer Daryl Palumbo, will be embarking on this year's edition of the MTV$2 Bill Tour. Added to the bill alongside previously announced opener Cobra Starship are Rock Kills Kid and Men, Women & Children. Envy On The Coast are one of a handful of bands who will open a portion of the shows; the remaining bands have not yet been announced. Dates:

A new song has been released by (+44) which is very good news. I've been anticipating their new music since I first heard they existed. This was back when they had a girl back up singer. She isn't in the group anymore though.

Plus 44, the new band consisting of Blink-182 bassist/vocalist Mark Hoppus and drummer Travis Barker, as well as guitarist Craig Fairbaugh (ex-Lars Frederickson And The Bastards/Transplants/The Forgotten) as well as guitarist Shane Gallagher of the Nervous Return, have posted the first audio from their upcoming debut album, When Your Heart Stops Beating, out Nov. 21 on Interscope. The song is titled "Lycanthrope" and can be streamed at the band's website.

There is no word if this will be the album's first single; the only other audio to come out thus far was a demo version of "No It Isn't," which surfaced last December. The band's first show is slated for this October as a part of the Bamboozle Left. [AP]

DETAILS OF MCR'S NEW ALBUM

We're getting closer and closer to the new My Chemical Romance album. Excitement, excitement, excitement! The band recently did a press conference where they discussed their new album. The first single and video off the disc is called "Welcome To The Black Parade".

New Jersey goth-punks My Chemical Romance have revealed a number of details about their upcoming third album, which has been titled The Black Parade. Through a prerecorded video press conference (which also debuts some of the band's new music in a live setting), MCR revealed a number of tidbits about the album, including some song titles -- including "Sleep," "I Don't Love You," "Cancer," "Welcome To The Black Parade" and the album's final track, "Famous Last Words" -- and also mentioned the liberal usage of piano and strings on the record, as well as discussed the making of the record, describing it as a "concept album." They are also expected to tour in Latin America and apparently Liza Manelli makes a guest vocal appearance. This album is looking to be dark, but a goody.

PANIC! AT THE BLOC PARTY

Panic! At the Disco and Bloc Party are going to be touring this Fall. Yes, it's true. A very unlikely pair will be touring for a solid month. It should be a great show because these are both amazing bands.

In an unlikely pairing, U.K. rock act Bloc Party and platinum-selling pop/rock combo Panic! At The Disco will tour together in North America this fall. The month-long outing will begin Nov. 7 in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and play theaters and mid-sized arenas through Dec. 9 in San Diego.

"We hope that our audience and their audience can each discover a great new band," Bloc Party frontman Kele Okereke says by way of explaining the co-billing. [Billboard]

STROKES GUITARIST GOES SOLO

The Strokes are one of my favorite bands ever. It was awesome to hear about this, but then I quickly hoped Albert wasn't leaving the Strokes. So those of you wondering, he is not leaving the Strokes.

Albert Hammond Jr., guitarist of everyone's favorite boarding-school dropouts the Strokes, has announced plans to release a solo album, titled Yours To Keep. The 10-song disc features bassist Josh Lattanzi (Ben Kweller) and drummer Matt Romano (Adam Green), as well as guest appearances from Sean Lennon, Ben Kweller, Fountains of Wayne's Jody Porter, Sammy James Jr. of the Mooney Suzuki and more. Yours To Keep will be released in the U.K. on Oct. 9 via Rough Trade. There is currently no U.S. label or release date set. [AP]

The songs are sounding really good so far. A couple of them seem really similar to the Strokes which is a downer because you hope for a different sound from something new. My favorite track they have released so far is "Scared". Check him out.

I wondered where these guys disappeared to. And now here they are, on their way out with a new album this Fall.

Rock act Incubus will return in November with its fifth studio album, "Light Grenades." The set was produced by longtime collaborator Brendan O'Brien.

"It's the closest we've ever come to being the band we want to be," singer Brandon Boyd says of "Light Grenades." [Billboard]

I've never been a huge fan of this band, but there are a couple tracks I really enjoy. We'll see how this album turns out for me. I know there's a lot of followers out there who are going crazy about this news.

NEW FOUND GLORY RELEASE SINGLE

Well, I didn't care for the last album so I was hoping for a strong new one.

Pop-punk stalwarts New Found Glory have posted online the first single from their new album, Coming Home. You can listen to the song, "It's Not Your Fault". The 13-track Coming Home comes out Sept. 19 through Geffen. [AP]

After listening to the new single, I have lost all hope in NFG. Their days of reigning as a top pop-punk band are over in my opinion. Their first two albums will always be landmarks in the pop-punk scene, but that's it.

Finally, we're going to get some new My Chemical Romance to hear. They have finally set a release date for the new album.

New Jersey goth-punks My Chemical Romance have announced a release date for their forthcoming third album. The release, still untitled, is set to hit stores on Oct. 24 via Reprise. It was recorded earlier this year in Los Angeles by Rob Cavallo (Green Day, Alanis Morissette).

"We want this to be the album that My Chemical Romance is remembered for," says bassist Mikey Way. "We all have records that shaped our childhood and teen years. When you hear a song, it shoots you back to a moment in time. We want this album to do that for people. We want the entire world to be moved."

The band have stayed busy even while recording: They released a CD/DVD retrospective earlier this year, and just last week, frontman Gerard Way announced plans to launch a comic book miniseries. [AP]

It's sounding pretty good. I enjoyed pretty much every single track on their last album, there wasn't any skip over tracks. Their first album I didn't care for. Let's hope for a great follow up third album.

THE KILLERS DEBUT NEW ALBUM

Sometimes I really wish I lived in New York. Lots of awesome stuff happens there. Last year the Arcade Fire set up their equipment and played randomly outside of a Subway station exit at like midnight. In the past a lot of bands have done shows introducing their new album before any where else. Well, that happened with the Killers as well.

The Killers unveiled their sophomore Island Def Jam album, "Sam's Town," at a media gathering last night (July 24) in New York that drew label chairman Antonio "L.A." Reid and Def Jam head honcho Jay-Z. As previously reported, the follow-up to 2004's "Hot Fuss" will arrive Oct. 3; the single "When You Were Young" is at radio now.

The set doesn't stray far from the sound introduced on "Hot Fuss," with its throbbing bass lines, jagged guitar lines, vintage synth flourishes and singer Brandon Flowers' theatrical phrasing. Two potential singles, "For Reasons Unknown" and "Read My Mind," are close relatives to the propulsive pop of the band's breakthrough single, "Mr. Brightside." [Billboard]

Oh to live in New York for events like that. Plus the new Apple store looks sick. I'm not for Apple computers, Dell's are the best, but iPods own.

As many of you may have heard, there are rumors flying around that Fall Out Boy would be releasing their new album by the end of the year. Sorta true, but sorta not. It's more like the beginning of the next year.

"We're still definitely pushing for it, but I don't know if we're going to be able to get the album out by the end of the year," he told MTV News. "We'd really love to do it, but in order for us to, things would be absolutely insane. The turnaround time would be insane. There will definitely be a single out by year's end though."

The band will be entering the studio next week with producer Neil Avron (Good Charlotte, Days Away), and are bringing 20 songs to the table. Among Wentz's favorites is "Me And You," which he describes as "Patrick... doing things that are straight-up Motown. If there wasn't a rock band playing, it'd be straight R&B, and he'd go on tour with just an upright bass and a drum and open up for R. Kelly." [AP]

Atleast we'll get a new single by year's end. I hope they finally release that track against the Killers. You have to love their little war because it serves no purpose and was brought on by jealousy from the Killers.

GLASSJAW SLOWLY REVIVING

Well, a lot of you may know that Head Automatica has a new album right now. What some of you might not know is that Glassjaw is still alive and kicking, a little.

Of course, Head Automatica are not the only project demanding Palumbo's time these days. He has revived Long Island, New York's Glassjaw, but dispelled fierce online rumors that an album from his long-dormant hardcore band is already in the bag.

"I f---ing wish it was done!" he exclaimed. "It's just getting started. I have a lot of lyrics and a significant amount of music ready. But it's just going to move slowly. We need the money to do the record, and we need to figure out who will put it out — we need to figure out the recording schedule, where we're going to do it and who we'll do it with.

"There's a concept I'm tinkering with for this album," he continued. "Every member of the band's currently busy with other projects, but there will always be a special place in all our hearts for Glassjaw. We're very much looking forward to playing music that will offend, insult and frighten many people." [VH1]

This is great news for all the Glassjaw fans out there. I am looking forward to it, maybe we'll finally get a tour featuring Glassjaw and the Used. Damn, I'm crossing my fingers!

NEW SUBLIME ALBUM

It looks like the 10th anniversery for Sublime's debut album will be celebrated with an expanded re-release.

Sublime's self-titled 1996 album, released a few months following the drug-related death of frontman Brad Nowell, will be reissued in a deluxe edition Aug. 15 via Geffen/UME. The double-disc set features what the label describes as Nowell's intended but unused sequence for the original album, which now begins with an unreleased cover of Bob Marley's "Trenchtown Rock."

The album also now includes the original mix of "Doin' Time," which was edited just before the original set's release due to a flap over sampling clearance. That track was just one of four huge rock airplay hits from "Sublime," joining "Santeria," "What I Got" and "Wrong Way."

The second disc of the upcoming release sports eight previously unreleased tracks, including "I Love My Dog," a tribute both to Nowell's Dalmation and the Bad Brains staple "I Love I Jah." An acoustic version of "Zimbabwe," instrumental runs through "April 29th, 1992" and "Caress Me Down" and Wyclef Jean's remix of "Doin' Time" are also included.

Rounding out the album are videos for "What I Got," "Wrong Way," "Santeria," "What I Got (Reprise)" and an unreleased alternate version of the clip for the original mix of "Doin' Time." [Billboard]

I'm thinking of buying this. I've never bought a Sublime album before, but I love a lot of their music. It'll be cool to see the old videos that they put Bradley into via computer. Sublime is good music, enough said.

AT THE DRIVE-IN RELEASES

Well, sort of.. The Mars Volta and Sparta which are the results of the At the Drive-In break up years back both have new albums coming out.

Progressive post-post-post hardcore weirdos (and that's putting it lightly) the Mars Volta have posted the first audio from Amputechture, the band's third full-length and follow-up to 2005's Frances The Mute (as well as their 2005 live album, Scabdates).

Amputechture is out Aug. 22. The Mars Volta will be on tour all this fall in support of the record opening for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. [AP]

Rock act Sparta has set an Oct. 10 release date for its third studio album and debut for Hollywood Records, "Threes." First single "Taking Back Control," which finds frontman Jim Ward sharing vocals with new member Keeley Davis.

Sparta has also created a short film, "Eme Nakia," to accompany "Threes." The movie was inspired by drummer Tony Hajjar's childhood in Beirut and his family's subsequent move to El Paso, Texas. [Billboard]

The Rapture is a pretty interesting indie band. I could never get too much into them, their sound just isn't catchy enough fof me. But there are always those few songs you can find from a band. I found a few which includes the new single.

New York-based rock act the Rapture drafted a production trio of Paul Epworth, Ewan Pearson and Danger Mouse for its new album, "Pieces of the People We Love." The set is due Sept. 4 in the United Kingdom via Vertigo and Sept. 12 in North America via Universal Motown. [Billboard]

I'm guessing the new album won't be on the radio, so if you have an open mind for new music, then give them a listen while you can. This is their second album release.

The Killers have released a new track on their website and MySpace. Out of nowhere the song appeared and it's about time! The track doesn't hit me like "Somebody Told Me" and "Mr. Brightside" did as singles, but that doesn't stop it from being good. I'm enjoying it a lot. It's good to see them back on the scene, maybe some more Killers/Fall Out Boy drama will unfold. Anyway, the new album is called 'Sam's Town' which is a locals casino in Las Vegas. If you didn't know, that's where the band is from so it makes sense. The new album is set to drop October 3rd via Island Records. Go listen to new Killers, I know you've been waiting for it!

Well it looks as though all the rumors flying around were true. Weezer is no more, or atleast for now. But from the looks of what Rivers said, they won't be back.

Enigmatic Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo recently spoke to MTV News, where he confirmed what many have feared for some time: Weezer are over. Sort of.

"Well, the band is all back in Los Angeles, and I sometimes I speak with Patrick, and I occasionally e-mail with Brian and Scott, but we've never mentioned getting together," Cuomo tells MTV News. "Really, for the moment, we are done. And I'm not certain we'll ever make a record again, unless it becomes really obvious to me that we need to do one."

There have been rumblings of a greatest-hits album of some sort coming out later this year, which Cuomo went onto confirm -- but also pan.

"It's being discussed with the record company right now, but we have to sign off before they can do anything. And to be honest, we don't all see eye-to-eye on it," he says. "I'm not convinced that we have a greatest-hits album that is worth putting out at this point. I'd like to include two more amazing songs on there. And anything else would just seem lazy to me. We'll see, though. I don't really feel comfortable with it now." [AP]

Weezer has a lot of great singles that would fit perfectly on a greatest hits album. But then again Rivers does like to go above and beyond with his stuff, so far now we're stuck making our own little burned greatest hits cd.

The new movie Snakes On A Place will feature some good rocker music. That kind of confuses me seeing as what kind of movie it is. It doesn't look that good, it looks like it's worth watching when you're sitting at home on the couch flipping through channels when you have nothing to do and all of a sudden you see it on the list. Then you'd say, "Oh, maybe I'll watch this."

The tracklisting for the upcoming Snakes On A Plane movie soundtrack, scheduled for an Aug. 15 release on Decaydance, the vanity label imprint of Fueled By Ramen created by Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz, has been revealed.

When I first heard the band, Mark was on vocals with Carol Heller back up singing. Now, an updated band photo shows no Carol, but two new guys. I have no idea what Mark and Travis are up to, but I'm sure it's all for the better.

Plus 44, the new band consisting of Blink-182 bassist/vocalist Mark Hoppus and drummer Travis Barker, have posted the first proper band photo since since their formation in April 2005, and with it has come a lineup change.

The photo, seen here, includes both Hoppus and Barker, as well as guitarist Craig Fairbaugh (ex-Lars Frederickson And The Bastards/Transplants/The Forgotten) as well as guitarist Shane Gallagher of the Nervous Return. Conspiciously absent from the photo is Carol Heller (ex-Get The Girl), who was in the band's initial lineup but has been rumored as of late to no longer be in the group. There is no official word on her involvement (or lack of) at the present time.

The band have been working on their debut full-length on and off since 2005, posting their first song at the end of the year; activity has appeared to increase recently since the break-up of Transplants, who were previously keeping Barker and Fairbaugh busy. [AP]

This video is a real downer. I watched it and damn, talk about sad. It's a good video. It's yet another to tell us to do what we can at the moment and to take full advantage of time spent with your siginifcant other, family, and friends.

Post-screamo buzz band Saosin have put online the first audio from their upcoming major-label debut. The song, titled "Shh," has been made available for streaming on the band's MySpace page.

While the song is listed as being taken from Sound Raptors, guitarist Beau Burchell confirmed via the band's message board that this is not the real album title, nor is "Shh" the actual song title. Regardless, the disc will be out Oct. 17 on Capitol Records.

The band are currently on Warped Tour; after that, they will head out on their own headlining tour. [AP]

Cursive is a really good band, I enjoy their music a lot. It's not catchy really, it's not mainstream at all, but it's just good. I'm really confused on why their new songs are under a different name than Cursive. Maybe they're changing names or they're just being different. Whatever, the music sounds good.

Saddle Creek Records' resident progressive post-hardcore peddlers, Cursive, have posted four songs from their upcoming album, Happy Hollow. The band, under an assumed name, have made available "Dorothy At Forty," "Bad Sects," "So-So Gigolo" and "The Sunks" available for streaming. Happy Hollow comes out August 22. The band are heading out this July for a short tour of the Midwest and East Coast. [AP]

FROM FIRST TO LAST TO GONE

Tand From First to Last has been dropped off all Warped Tour dates from now. The head of Warped confirmed the departure and stated that there will always be a spot for them when they're ready to come back. They will continue writing their third album and prepare for a Fall tour.

After initially dropping off four dates of Warped Tour earlier this week, From First To Last have been forced to drop off the entire tour for the rest of the summer. The band's vocalist, Sonny Moore, has developed a node on his vocal cords and is having minor surgery to remove it; according to the band's MySpace blog, " Doctors assure us that Sonny will be full force come this fall when we tour." I haven't heard much from this band, but I do understand they have a strong following. Best of luck to them!

POSTAL SERVICE STARTS NEW ALBUM

Finally! It's time for the album that I have been waiting for since, well, forever. After hearing the Postal Service they instantly became one of my favorite groups. And every so often they release a new song that they either covered or created and that just makes me want more. Looks like it's coming soon!

MTV.com is reporting that the Postal Service, the electro-emo collaboration between Death Cab For Cutie's Ben Gibbard and Dntel's Jimmy Tamborello, have officially begun work on the follow-up to 2003's gold-certified Give Up.

"We're slowly starting. We're crawling right now, and whether that crawl turns into a walk remains to be seen," saysa Gibbard.

The duo have only completed two songs thus far, but Gibbard promises their output will increase once Death Cab completes touring for the year later this fall. The album is slated for a 2007 release on Sub Pop. [AP]

Heavens, a side project of Alkaline Trio's Matt Skiba and Joe Steinbrick of F-Minus, have signed to Epitaph Records. The label will release their debut album, Patent Pending, on Aug. 22. [AP]

Apparently their original name was GOD (or the Garden Of Delight). So you may have heard of them before under that name. Their new single is different, but good! I'm liking it a lot. I sampled F-Minus a few minutes ago, not my style. But here's an Alkaline Trio song to go with the Heavens' single.

Decaydance will be releasing the soundtrack for Samuel L. Jackson's latest project, Snakes On A Plane. The single off the album features vocals from the Academy Is..., Gym Class Heroes, and the Sounds.
The Strokes have covered a Marvin Gaye song with with Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder and Queens Of The Stone Age's Josh Homme. The track is titled, "Mercy Mercy Me" and is set to be released in July as the b-side to their latest single "You Only Live Once".

YELLOWCARD FRONTMAN RECOVERS

After facing the possibility of never singing again, Yellowcard frontman Ryan Key has recovered from emergency throat surgery and is glad to be back on the road. Key underwent surgery in mid-May to remove a cyst from his vocal cords caused by overworking his voice.

Key is still unsure of how his voice will hold up on the tour but he's refusing to dwell on what ifs. "I'm trying to take that energy that's nervous about what's going to happen and turn it into more of an excitement to get back out there again and get things rolling," he says. [Billboard]

I give Ryan props for what he went through and still continuing on with his band's music. I'm not a big Yellowcard fan, but I'll give credit where credit is due. They're a great band that work hard. Show some support and buy their latest album, you won't be disappointed. Sample their single below.

NEW SUGARCULT ALBUM

Southern California punk-poppers Sugarcult have revealed some details on their upcoming third album. The disc, titled Lights Out, was recorded by Gavin MacKillop (Public Image Limited, The Church) and mixed by Tom Lord Alge (Weezer, Fall Out Boy, Marilyn Manson, Oasis), and will be released by Fearless/V2 on Sept. 12. Tracks on the album include "Dead Living,", "Riot", "The Investigation," "Shaking," "Los Angeles," "Made A Mistake" and first single "Do It Alone," which will be released to radio on July 18.

The band also announced some preliminary tour plans in support of the record. They will headline their own tour from Sept. 5 to Oct. 10 with support from the Spill Canvas, Halifax, Maxeen, and SoTheySay. No specific dates have been confirmed. [AP]

I liked their debut album a lot. I've never heard their second album except for their single "Memory". I hope the next album is good so they can keep up with all the other pop-punk bands out there. Here's two singles from their first and second album.

RX BANDITS LEAVE DRIVE-THRU

Progressive socio-political ska band Rx Bandits have announced that they have left Drive-Thru Records, their home for the past nine years and four albums. The band will instead release their long-awaited new album, ...And The Battle Begun, through singer Matt Embree's MDB Records on Oct. 10. The band will also have copies of the album available on their upcoming summer tour.

A second song from the album, "Crushing Destroyer," has been posted on the band's PureVolume page. The band previously posted "Only For The Night" on their MySpace page. [AP]

The band will be releasing a new track every week until the new record drops according to their purevolume page. There are a couple songs I like by this band, but that pretty much sums it up for me. Maybe you'll like them though, so give them a listen.

THE KILLERS ARE ALMOST DONE

Recent interviews with Brandon Flowers (vocals) gives us the latest on the new album's process..

So, The Killers are heading off to London to put the finishing touches on their second album. I'd say it's about 85% done. I'm excited, I loved most of the tracks off their debut album so the next one should be good. Most of the time bands always say their new album will be different, and most of the time it's never near as good as the first. But hopefully they pull it off!

I am back from my vacation. I had a wonderful time for those of you that are wondering. I was a little disappointed no one yelled what's up. My girlfriend and I were bumping Sublime and Taking Back Sunday, and I mean bumping! I thought I would do a little MP3 catch up, enjoy.

So, I have finally heard the new song from Dashboard Confessional. It's not too shabby. I can't wait to hear the rest of the album, hopefully some good singles will come out of it since this album is supposed to be like the greatest one ever according to Chris Carrabba.

On a side note, it is fricken crazy how every Dashboard picture is only of Chris. I had a bit of a hard time finding a full band photo. Conceited much? Then again I guess I would be too if I could write lyrics like him.

Haha, what can I say about these guys. They're the nerdiest looking musicians I've ever seen and their current single is just so crazy! I heard it for the first time last week. I came home and played it non-stop and made my girlfriend love it too. It's catchy as hell and definitely one of the top singles of the year. Possibly another horribly addicting and already over played (by me alone) "Hey Ya" by Outkast. Great song, give it a listen.

Panic! at the Disco is a dance-punk band from Las Vegas, Nevada, whose 2005 debut album 'A Fever You Can't Sweat Out' made the Billboard 200 album chart's album of the day, selling more than 500,000 copies to date. Their name was taken from a line in the Name Taken song, "Panic".

In order to get their music heard, the band left comments through LiveJournal to Pete Wentz's (of Fall Out Boy), linking him to their PureVolume site. Wentz was so impressed that he drove to Las Vegas to meet them personally. Then he referred them to Fueled by Ramen Records, who signed them (while they were still in high school) to Wentz's imprint label Decaydance.

On May 17, 2006, Panic! At the Disco made an official announcement via their website announcing the departure of their bassist Brent Wilson. Johnny Walker, the new bassist is a long-time friend of the band.
